MsMilkytheclown1 / On this edition of DTRH, Popeye covers the ongoing issues in St. Louis with two radioactive waste contaminated sites within miles of each other. Coldwater Creek with all of the surrounding communities, and the Westlake Nuclear Waste Landfill.
In hour number one he speaks to Kim Visintine of Coldwater Creek Facts (coldwatercreekfacts.com) about the history of what happened there, and how the people have suffered as a result of being exposed to radioactivity over the years while just living their normal lives; what the current situation is since the Army Corp. of Engineers are there “cleaning up” the spill site; how people are still living in this contaminated area and many don’t even realize it, and how the people dealing with the Westlake landfill can learn from from the history of Coldwater Creek. In hour two Popeye breaks down the three main issues with the Westlake/Bridgeton landfills, and the danger to the surrounding communities. Towards the end of the hour Popeye is joined by activist and resident Dawn Chapman of Just Moms STL (stlradwastelegacy.com). The two of them have an emotionally powerful conversation about the ongoing issues at Westlake and the effect on the people there both physically and mentally.
